Last week, Madonna ruled Billboard’s Dance Airplay chart, scoring a historic new No. 1 hit. She is no longer in charge of the tally, which is known for its quick turnover, but even as her latest champion falls, the Queen of Pop returns with yet another single from her recently-released and critically-applauded Confessions II album.
At the same time that multiple singles from the collection are present on the same roster, Madonna returns to another Billboard tally and scores a new top 10 hit with a fellow pop legend.
Madonna’s “Love Sensation” Falls From No. 1
“Love Sensation” falls from No. 1 to No. 3 on the Dance Airplay chart this week. The single rose to the summit last frame, becoming Madonna’s ninth ruler on the ranking.
With a ninth champion in her catalog, Madonna tied Ellie Goulding for the fifth-most leaders in the history of the tally. They trail The Chainsmokers, Rihanna, Calvin Harris and David Guetta.
Madonna cedes control of the highest space, making room for “Meet Again” by Kaskade, Natalie Jane and Layton Giordani to push from third place to No. 1. “Sad Girls,” a team-up between Bebe Rexha and Guetta – one of several between the artists – settles for second place.
Madonna Debuts Another Confessions II Single
Even as “Love Sensation” no longer controls the Dance Airplay chart, Madonna collects another hit on the same ranking. “Danceteria,” the latest single from Confessions II, opens at No. 30.
MORE FOR YOU
Upon its arrival, “Danceteria” has already performed better than “Bring Your Love,” Madonna’s team-up with Sabrina Carpenter that helped turn Confessions II into a bestseller. That collaboration debuted and peaked at No. 36 back in June.
Madonna Scores Her Twentieth Dance Airplay Chart Hit
“Danceteria” becomes Madonna’s landmark twentieth hit on the Dance Airplay chart. Just over half of those songs — 11 in total — have cracked the top 10. Only two of those top 10s, “Celebration” and “Me Against the Music” with Britney Spears, reached the highest tier but failed to climb all the way to No. 1.
Here are all of Madonna’s hits on Billboard’s Dance Airplay chart.
Madonna and Kylie Minogue Score a Sales Hit Together
The Confessions II star recently unveiled a new version of “Love Sensation” that includes vocals by Australian pop titan Kylie Minogue. The newly-relabeled duet brings both women back to the Digital Song Sales chart, where it reenters at a new peak of No. 5.
Luminate reports that “Love Sensation” sold a little more than 3,000 copies during the tracking period. That figure includes sales of both the original, solo track and the update.
The collaboration is the highest-ranking of several reentries on the Digital Song Sales chart this week. Shaboozey brings two cuts back to the list, and they land just beneath the top 10, as “Cowgirls” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” return at Nos. 11 and 13, respectively. Bruno Mars, Beyoncé and Olivia Dean also surge back onto the ranking and sit side by side, landing at Nos. 21, 22 and 23, respectively.
Madonna Charts Her Fourth-Highest Digital Sales Hit
Thanks to its re-release as a Minogue duet, “Love Sensation” becomes Madonna’s fourth-highest-charting hit on the Digital Song Sales ranking. The three songs that have risen higher all reached No. 1: “4 Minutes” with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, “Hung Up,” and Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” on which Madonna was featured.
Kylie Minogue Reaches a New Career Peak
Minogue doubles her career total on the Digital Song Sales chart thanks to her Madonna collaboration. Previously, she had landed only one hit on the tally with “Padam Padam” – many of her most famous tunes performed well before the introduction of the tally – which soared as high as No. 18 several summers ago. Now, the multi-Grammy winner jumps to an all-time career peak as “Love Sensation” reappears at No. 5.
