Fiat’s Summer Fun Includes Bringing Topolino Stateside and Showing the Adorable Multiplina Concept

The first Fiat Topolino models bound for sale in the United States have officially landed on this side of the pond, the brand showed in an Instagram post. Fiat's Topolino-filled summer includes a brace of new ...

Given that much of the world currently feels like it's been stuffed into a bag and left next to a space heater set to full blast, now feels like a great time to pour yourself a crisp Aperol spritz and settle in for a bit of European car spotting. Thankfully, Fiat is spending its heatwave serving up a platter full of announcements, which range from new Topolino variants to a new four-seat concept car.

The most relevant news came in the form of an Instagram post by Fiat USA, which confirmed that the first Topolino models bound for sale in the United States have officially arrived in the country. While the cars are blurred and the Topolino isn't mentioned by name, there's no mistaking its diminutive size and stout posture. We're still waiting for full details on the Topolino's positioning and presence in the U.S. market, but we bet that information is right around the corner.

The Topolino news doesn't stop there. Fiat unveiled a pair of special editions for the 8-hp microcar. The first is called the Topolino New Vilebrequin Collector's Edition, seen above, and serves as a partnership between Fiat and the French swimwear brand Vilebrequin. The partnership version gets a closed body—in Topolino terms, that means it has doors—but comes with a roll-up softtop roof. It's got two-tone paint and will be limited to just 200 units for Italy and France.

The second new Topolino variant is a bit sportier, literally, though it doesn't actually make any more power. Instead, Fiat gave the Topolino four new color options and three stripe colors to choose from, before labeling it the Sport Special Edition. The new version also gets black headlight frames, matte black wheels, black mirror caps, and a carbon-esque vinyl wrap in the interior.

Perhaps even cuter than the miniature Topolino is Fiat's new Multiplina concept car, seen at the top of this story, which the brand unveiled earlier this week. The Multiplina has two doors, seating for four, and a similar roll-up softtop to the Topolino. According to Fiat, the design inspiration comes from the Fiat 600 Multipla of the 1950s, and the resemblance is clear.

Fiat describes the concept as "the missing link between a Topolino and a car," which we take to mean it'll be sized somewhere between the quadricycle Topolino and the modern Fiat 500. While we wouldn't wager much money on Fiat bringing a production version Stateside, we would've said something similar about the Topolino just a few years ago, and look where we are now.
