Walmart Shoppers Are Supposedly Using a Hidden Promo Code to Knock $20 off The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Preorders, but It Might Not Work for Everyone
Walmart shoppers are supposedly using a hidden promo code to knock $20 off The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time preorders, bringing it down from $70 to $50, but it might not work for everyone.
Fans are potentially saving as much as $20 on their preorder of the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2.
The game is already $10 off at Walmart and Amazon, but we've now seen multiple reports of shoppers getting another $10 knocked off at Walmart by using a specific promo code.
That code is SAVE3X, and we decided to put it to the test ourselves. Fellow Senior Commerce Editor Chris Reed successfully preordered the game with the code, bringing his total down to just $49.88. Unfortunately, our Senior Social Producer Seth Macy wasn't so lucky when he tried it himself. Womp womp.
So, this is very much a YMMV situation, but it's certainly worth trying if you're planning to pick up the remake anyway, especially if you want that rather lovely limited-edition "textured foil" cover art.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Switch 2)
There does seem to be another quirk to the promotion, too. From the reports I've seen, shoppers who have successfully applied the code are selecting "delivery" or "pickup" rather than the standard "shipping" option at checkout.
I've also been told that SAVE3X is supposedly a Walmart 'new customer code' and works only on the first three online purchases you make at the retailer as a new customer. But, once again, IGN's Chris Reed was able to use the code and has shopped at Walmart plenty of times before. So, who knows!
But even after all that, if the coupon code still doesn't work for you, getting a physical copy for $10 below MSRP isn't exactly a bad consolation prize either.
But what's the deal with that as well?
Well, it's actually pretty straightforward. As has become Nintendo's custom with this console generation, the game's MSRP is $59.99 for digital and $69.99 for physical copies.
That said, Amazon and Walmart have been pretty consistent about undercutting that $69.99 physical price, often bringing games down to match, or even beat, the $59.99 digital price. It's a neat little incentive to buy physical, particularly if you're already planning to preorder.
We've seen the same thing with other Switch 2 exclusives, including Star Fox, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, and Switch Sports Resort, among others. Just bear in mind that these lower prices are generally a preorder perk, with the price going back up once the game actually launches.
And, if you're opting for a physical copy, there's another nice bonus here: Ocarina of Time comes entirely on the cartridge. There's no game key card nonsense to worry about.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches for Switch 2, November 5, 2026. As you can tell, preorders are now live, and have been incredibly popular so far.
It'll have redone load screens when it arrives, with players also still coming to grips with the wild changes Nintendo made to the game's visuals.
