Courts and Crime

In a statement to Rolling Stone, the reality star also says the public doesn't know the “full story,” and his priority was his son with co-star Gael Cameron following his arrest in December

Below Deck star Nathan Gallagher admits that he’s “made mistakes” but claims to have “evidence” that will offer a different version of events that led to his arrest on domestic violence charges last December.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Gallagher adds that his priority was his young son and finding a way to co-parent with his former partner and Below Deck cast member Gael Cameron.

Gallagher says he was speaking out now because “I don’t believe the public has heard the full story surrounding what happened,” adding that “what has been publicly reported, however, represents only one side of what was an extremely complicated situation.”

Prior to publication, Rolling Stone asked to review any materials that Gallagher said would offer a different perspective on his arrest but did not receive a response back.

The reality star and superyacht bosun’s statement comes after Rolling Stone reported last week that he was arrested in Australia last December for assaulting an unnamed 29-year-old woman at a Sydney-area apartment complex. He was charged with “assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally chok[ing a] person without consent, and common assault,” according to New South Wales Police.

While the woman was unnamed in the police memo, both Gallagher’s statement and a corresponding court case seem to indicate it was Cameron, who has an Apprehended Violence Application filed against Gallagher. A hearing for both the criminal charges and the AV request is scheduled for Sept. 1. (A representative for Bravo and Cameron did not return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.)

News of Gallagher’s arrest comes as his current season of Below Deck Mediterranean is currently airing on Bravo. (The season was filmed last summer.) Gallagher and Cameron originally met while filming Season Nine of the show, striking up a romance while working on the deck team together. One of this season’s major storylines is Gallagher juggling his bosun duties while trying to be present for Cameron and their newborn son who are living nearby in Croatia.

Below is Gallagher’s statement in full:

I’m willing to respond because I don’t believe the public has heard the full story surrounding what happened.

I understand NSW Police have confirmed my arrest in December 2025. What has been publicly reported, however, represents only one side of what was an extremely complicated situation.

I have contemporaneous video footage from the night in question, as well as messages and other records, which I believe provide important context and show events that have not been publicly reported. I am willing to provide the relevant footage so that you can make your own assessment of what it shows.

There are also other matters surrounding the relationship that I have never discussed publicly, including circumstances surrounding the breakdown of our relationship, previous allegations she made about a former partner, and financial matters relating to the purchase of an apartment in Sydney. I have retained documentation and communications relating to those matters as well.

I am not going to make accusations or release private documents on Instagram. I have kept the evidence and will deal with it through the appropriate channels. But I also don’t believe it is fair for one version of events to be presented publicly as though it is the complete story when there is evidence that may materially contradict or provide significant context to that account.

I’m not claiming I was perfect. I wasn’t. I made mistakes and I will take responsibility for my own actions. But I will not accept being portrayed solely through one person’s account of a relationship when there is another side and evidence relating to it.

My biggest concern is my son. One day he will be old enough to see everything that has been said about his parents, and I don’t want his childhood turned into a public battle.

My priority is being recognised as his father, establishing a relationship with him and ultimately finding a way for both of us to move forward and co-parent peacefully.

Im not looking for revenge, and not asking anyone to take my side. I simply want the opportunity for the other side to be heard and for the evidence to be considered.
