Overview

The Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid and Turbo S E-Hybrid possess a shared split personality. The sensible side presents as a premium European sedan ideal for transporting four passengers and their stuff in stylish luxury, preferably to an exotic locale; the other side, as we have stated elsewhere in Car and Driver stories, “defies all logic.”

For that, you can thank its plug-in hybrid powertrain, which delivers 670 combined horsepower in the E-Hybrid and 771 in the S E-Hybrid, the latter requiring just 2.5 seconds to hit 60 mph in C/D testing. Teamed with its amazing PAR active suspension, it delivers performance levels generally reserved for supercars. But the softer side is always there, ready to settle into a swift, mile-devouring highway groove, with a smoother ride than many all-out luxury cars, letting you enjoy the available Brumester premium audio system while your companion geeks out on video games on the passenger-side infotainment screen. It’s like a private jet, but with wheels and tires.

Expert Tip: While the Turbo E-Hybrid and S E-Hybrid bring the most heat, the base Panamera and Panamera E-Hybrid deliver similarly engaging driving dynamics, albeit with lower limits, at a much lower price.

What's New for 2027?

The Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid and S E-Hybrid roll—very quickly—into 2027 with no major changes.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Turbo E-Hybrid model pairs a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine with a plug-in hybrid system for a combined 670 horsepower, while the Turbo S E-Hybrid gets boosted to 771 ponies. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard, as is all-wheel drive. An air-spring suspension system and adaptive dampers are standard, and Porsche will provide rear-wheel steering as an option.

We had the chance to drive the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid on a racetrack in Spain and on some public roads nearby, an exercise that highlights the car's dual nature. During more sedate driving, it's a pleasant luxury sedan with a sporting edge, but turn it to Sport Plus mode on the track, and it becomes a monster of a performance machine. That model, plus the Turbo S E-Hybrid we drove, featured Porsche's new Active Ride suspension system, which can firm up the dampers on one side of the car to keep body roll in check during hard cornering. It also does an amazing job smoothing large bumps and humps, imbuing the Panamera with a limousine-like ride.

0–60-MPH Times

This is a very, very fast car. At our test track, a Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid blasted to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and reached the quarter-mile mark in just 10.5 seconds doing 132 mph. We haven't had a chance to test a standard Turbo E-Hybrid model yet, but we'll update this section when we do have testing figures to share.

In Comparison: The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid’s 2.5-second time edges out the 2.7-second time put down by its 911 GT3 sibling in C/D testing.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

A 22-kWh battery pack is estimated by the EPA to deliver 28 miles of electric driving per charge. In our testing, however, the Panamera S E-Hybrid managed an incredible 48 miles of highway driving before depleting its battery and kicking on its gas engine. An 11.0-kW onboard charger is said to allow the battery to be replenished in about three hours when plugged into a Level 2 public charger.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA estimates the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid's fuel economy at 21 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. The Turbo S E-Hybrid is rated for 20 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. On our 75-mph highway fuel economy, the Panamera S E-Hybrid returned an impressive 28 mpg. For more information about the Panamera's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV fuel efficiency.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: The Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid's interior is offered with plenty of high-end options, so you can order it decked out with luxuries like multiple leather upholstery options, a deluxe console armrest, colored gauge faces, and a carbon steering wheel—or leave it relatively spartan. Choices include comfort- or sport-oriented bucket seats in the front; both are power-adjustable and wrapped in leather. Either way, you're getting a spacious four-door that'll fit four adults and their luggage for a weekend road trip.

Second Row: The rear seats can be ordered as two buckets or a three-across bench. Optional comfort pillow headrests are available, as are power sunscreens.

Cargo Capacity: Rather than a conventional trunk, the Panamera has a hatchback that provides a large opening for loading stuff in the back. In our testing, we were able to fit seven carry-on suitcases in the Panamera's trunk with the rear seats in their upright position. With the seats folded, we fit 19.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A fully digital dashboard comes standard on all models and includes a 12.6-inch curved glass panel that serves as a digital gauge display. A 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system can be accompanied by the optional 10.9-inch passenger display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, the Amazon Alexa voice assistant, and spatial audio via Dolby Atmos are all standard. Of note, Porsche says opting for the 21-speaker premium Burmester audio slightly reduces luggage capacity as the 400-watt subwoofer requires additional space. Rear seat entertainment screens are also available.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Panamera offers a host of driver-assistance features, including convenience-oriented ones such as adaptive cruise control with lane-centering.

For more information about the Panamera's crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Porsche's limited warranty and its powertrain warranty are competitive in this class. Its 24-hour roadside assistance program is also similar to what rivals offer. However, Porsche only includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for a short time. BMW's complimentary scheduled maintenance program is considerably longer.

C/D Test Results and Specs

Each year, we put hundreds of vehicles through our rigorous instrumented testing regimen. If the data in the chart below is for a different model year, that's because this vehicle hasn't changed since we last tested it, and the test results remain accurate.
